The Placitas Artists Series will present a performance from the Erinys Quartet Dec.8 at 3 p.m. at Las Placitas Presbyterian Church.

Named for the Erinyes (a.k.a. the Furies) from the Greek tragedy Oresteia by Aeschylus, and with roots in Estonia, Lithuania, Greece, the United States and Finland, the Erinys Quartet was founded in 2018 at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki where they worked closely with cellist Marko Ylönen, according to a press release. The ensemble is composed of Elizabeth Stewart, violin; Joosep Reimaa, violin; Marija Räisänen, viola; and Stergios Theodoridis, cello.

Erinys has been the Nina von Maltzahn String Quartet-in-Residence at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia since 2023.

The program includes string quartets by Ludwig van Beethoven, Béla Bartók and Leoš Janáček; and a single-movement work by Anton Webern.

Individual concert tickets can be purchased at PlacitasArts.org, where the concert program, musician bios and more are available. K-12 students accompanied by an adult ticket holder may attend for free. The concert is sponsored by Rondi and Duane Thornton, Claudia and Robert Moraga and the Cates Team at RBS Wealth Management, and Barbara Butler and Glenn Porter.

Concert goers are encouraged to come early for a 1:30 p.m. talk about the program followed by a 2 p.m. visual artists reception in the Fellowship Hall at the church, 7 Paseo De San Antonio Rd. Admission to the talk and the gallery is free. On exhibit will be the works of Michelle D’Amour, oil on canvas; Virginia Primozic, paper on canvas; Katie Thomas, mixed media art; and LWren Walraven, mixed media art.

The current exhibit is open to the public during church gallery hours, Tuesday-Friday, 9 a.m.-1: p.m. These artists are on exhibit from Nov. 1-Dec. 12. All artwork on display is available for purchase.
