Growing up in Rio Rancho, having attended Rio Rancho Elementary, Middle and High School, my community has always meant a great deal to me, from a very personal perspective. Knowing what my community means to me and acknowledging the unprecedented crisis that my generation currently faces, there seemed to be no better time than now to be part of policy creation in my community.
Right now my generation is facing a historic American crisis. As we stand today, my generation is expected to be the first in American history that is not only slated to experience a declining life-expectancy than the generation before us, but is also expected to experience a lower standard of living than the generation before us.
As I consider the personal standing of myself and so many other young folks from Sandoval County, unable to even explore the possibility of owning a home, starting a business, or starting a family, let alone all three sustainably, I can’t help but feel that we currently do not have policy makers who represent the needs and concerns that my generation is facing. I want to run to fundamentally change how we approach our politics and how we approach each other as neighbors so that we can achieve common sense policy results on a County level that drive us together and that we are all hungry for. I am running to represent everyone in the community rather than everyone within a single political party.
Being a part of this race is an exciting opportunity for my district to maintain its safety and prosperity, but more importantly it would be a unique opportunity to have not only a qualified and capable, but a younger generation and a fresh voice that has a seat at the table. It would mean that our young people have someone who is fighting for them so that they can feel like they have the opportunity to succeed by staying in New Mexico and Sandoval County. It would mean having someone who was a part of the public school system here, to best advocate for how to improve it and support our students. It would mean a generation of political leadership that is tired of our senseless division and more importantly will work tirelessly to restore our sense of unity and build a community that every single one of us can be proud of.
I have done a great deal of work to ensure that the policies I support do not have a political label in front of them, but rather that they represent the needs and interests of everyone who lives in the Second District of Sandoval County. As I’ve been out these past months knocking doors, I hear about so many issues from people in the district that unite us, far more than national headlines will have us believe. We want safe communities, we want quality schools, we want low taxes for our families, we want to make sure our young people feel confident in staying in Sandoval County, we want to come together as neighbors and community members to achieve this common sense policy.
I want folks to know they can always get in touch with me, they can rely on me for collaboration and consideration, and they can know that my policies are crafted in a way that are designed to achieve meaningful and genuine success for prosperity between Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike. The first metric that I will use when approaching policy considerations is the needs of all of my constituents in the community and the last metric I will use is my party affiliation. Our politics doesn’t have to be like this. IT can be better, WE can be better.
