Beer lovers are on edge this week amid rumors that one of Albuquerque’s most popular and longest-running breweries — Marble Brewery — may be closing.
Online forums and social media posts are swirling with different possibilities: the owners are looking for a buyer; bankruptcy is on the horizon; employees were recently given a 60-day notice.
But those close to the situation, including staff and management, either won’t confirm the rumors or didn’t immediately respond to email and phone messages Monday.
A particularly active Reddit thread called “r/Albuquerque” contained a post Friday titled “Marble Brewery Closing all locations.”
Raul Maestas, owner of the Ohana Hut restaurant located next to Marble’s Westside location, said the rumors were true in a post on his Facebook page.
“Yesterday I was told marble brewery is for sale all of marble not just the west side… and if it does not get sold by December 1st it will be closing its doors,” Maestas posted.
Marble’s original location opened in 2008 at 111 Marble Ave. NW, just north of Downtown in the Wells Park neighborhood. The city quickly welcomed the business and its soon-to-be award-winning beer. The location then became a go-to community hangout for craft beer lovers who had access to a large outdoor patio and frequent live music.
Marble would later expand to two other locations — one in the Northeast Heights and one on the Westside. It has dozens of employees and its beer is also distributed in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Texas.
