The people of New Mexico deserve a lawmaker who will seek out their concerns, hear their voices, and represent them faithfully. That is why I am running for NM Senate District 40.
I am the oldest of four children. I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, where my younger brother and I shared the challenge of being the first students of color to integrate an all-white elementary school. This experience has fueled my passion to ensure that all children—and adults—are treated with dignity and respect. I have carried this principle with me throughout my career, which ranges from international finance and business in the private sector to public service in state government.
My values are those of my beautiful adoptive state of New Mexico and Rio Rancho. I value public education and will address the educational needs of New Mexico’s children. I believe that women are entitled to reproductive freedom and that all people deserve accessible, quality healthcare.
Because I am committed to affordable housing, I am a board member of Rebuilding Together in Sandoval County, an all-volunteer non-profit organization that provides no-cost home rehabilitation to our neighbors in need.
Public safety concerns me deeply. To truly understand law enforcement’s challenges and become acquainted with the people behind the badge, I attended the Rio Rancho Citizens’ Policy Academy. As an Academy graduate, I have gained unique insight into law enforcement operations and challenges and developed concrete ideas for how we can better support our police and other first responders.
I am a “people person” who has canvassed extensively and spoken with hundreds of people in my district. I love to learn about their hopes and dreams, as well as how government can better address the obstacles that stand in the way of a better life for them and their families. These conversations continue to be positive and rewarding experiences, and I look forward to continuing these conversations as your senator.
If I am elected, I promise to hear your voices and to represent your values and interests in the NM Senate. My constituents will know my name and they will understand that I support the rule of law, freedom, democracy, and the U.S. Constitution. These are the values to which I am committed and the ideals that will guide us forward.
