The state of New Mexico and the City of Albuquerque both offer a variety of reimbursements, rebates and other forms of freebies for eligible individuals and businesses. From home improvement to caregiving, here are some of the ways you might qualify for some of these benefits.
Low-income homeowners in Albuquerque can receive help with custom approaches for home upgrades that include replacements of heating and cooling systems, windows, doors and insulation. The New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department awarded the city $1.7 million earlier this year to help with energy audits and plans to increase energy savings for low-income households in the city.
Brick-and-mortar small businesses, nonprofit organizations and schools are eligible for grants to offset costs for repairing vandalism. Businesses can be reimbursed up to 80% the total cost of repair for windows that have been broken or vandalized.
Outside of Albuquerque, low-income New Mexico residents who upgrade their homes with energy-efficient technology might qualify for up-front rebates. The state acquired $43 million in federal aid earlier this month to help upgrade home energy efficiency. Eligible technologies include insulation, heat pumps and Energy Star-certified appliances. Qualified residents can get coupons, which can be redeemed for rebates, after purchasing these technologies. New Mexico is the first state to offer up-front rebates of this kind, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said in a press release.
New Mexico might fund employee training for expanding businesses or those that are relocating. The Job Training Incentive Program funds classroom and on-the-job training for up to 6 months. The program can reimburse 50-90% of employee wages.
Those who have paid for child care services can receive tax credit. Up to 30% of eligible expenses can be reimbursed. Taxpayers who operate child care facilities and have dependent children who are primarily cared for under the facility are also eligible for reimbursement against the corporate income tax.
People who assist their friends or family members with daily activities may be eligible to receive financial assistance through the New MexiCare Caregiver Health Model. Applicants over the age of 60 who have cognitive or physical limitations may be eligible to receive up to $16,800 over the course of a year to assist with paying people who provide safety and care services.
Residents and commercial customers in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County can be incentivized to lower water intake. The Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority offers incentives for various types of water reduction methods.
