Bernalillo County is issuing a call for residents to bring their unique skills and perspectives to fill several board vacancies. This is a chance for Bernalillo County residents to voice their concerns and make a difference in their community.
Youth Sports Commission
Two vacancies – Districts 1 and 5 (Commissioners Barbara Baca and Eric Olivas), including the East Mountains.
One vacancy – At Large (representing all sports)
The Bernalillo County Youth Sports Commission focuses on enhancing youth sports programs within Bernalillo County. The commission is dedicated to engaging the community in supporting and promoting youth athletic opportunities, ensuring safe and sufficient facilities, improving safety standards, fostering a healthy sports environment, raising public awareness of youth sports needs, and bolstering economic development through sports.
The commission consists of 19 members: five appointed by the commissioner of each district, eight at-large members from specific sports backgrounds, and six others from various local entities in government, healthcare, business, and adaptive sports backgrounds. All members serve staggered two or three-year terms. Members must be residents of Bernalillo County and are selected for their leadership and involvement in youth sports. Meetings are held bi-monthly on the first Monday of the month.

Keep BernCo Beautiful Advisory Board
Two vacancies – Districts 2 and 3 (Commissioners Quezada and Barboa)
The Keep BernCo Beautiful Advisory Board collaborates with the national Keep America Beautiful initiative, focusing on enhancing community environments through litter prevention, beautification, waste reduction, and recycling. This board aligns with the broader goals of promoting community pride and environmental stewardship in Bernalillo County.
Consisting of five members, one from each district, appointed by the County Commissioners, the board meets bi-monthly to advise on relevant local issues. Members serve three-year terms.

Eligibility Info
To be eligible to serve on a county board, commission, or council, one must reside within the county boundaries and/or within the boundaries of specified commission districts and be sponsored by the commissioner representing the district. “At Large” positions (those that are not specific to one district), also require a commissioner sponsor for appointment.
