“Los Vecinos Community Center is not just one of the oldest centers across the county, it’s a pillar of the East Mountain community,” says District 5 Commissioner Eric Olivas. “This renovation will greatly enhance this, and by extension, greatly improve the experience our residents will have.”

This high-priority project, identified in the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Facility Master Plan, represents phase one of a broader series of improvements. Key improvements include replacing the outdated soccer field, playground, shade structures, drainage, lighting, irrigation system, and basketball court. Crews will also construct a multi-use court for sports like basketball and pickleball. A new stage will be built in addition to a storage container and a drivable loop trail with outlets for food trucks.

Los Vecinos Community Center is the second oldest in the county’s inventory and was originally built on land acquired for the first East Mountains fire station.

BernCo will host a public meeting and groundbreaking ceremony in September.

Commissioners approved this item on a 5-0 vote.
