Albuquerque Police detectives are investigating after two people were shot — one fatally — Downtown early Sunday morning, according to a news release. 

Police say officers were responding to a crash in Barelas when they were alerted to another crash near Gold Avenue and Fifth Street SW. When they went to that scene they found one person dead and a second injured.

“Officers located one individual with fatal gunshot wounds,” the news release stated. “The male victim was determined to be deceased at the scene. A second victim was also injured by gunfire and transported to a local hospital.”

Police say the second victim’s injuries, “are not considered to be life-threatening.” 

The people who were shot have not been publicly identified and police did not say if they had any suspects.
