This year’s Torrance County Fair is looking to be bigger and better than last year’s.

The fair runs from July 27 through Aug. 9 and will take place at the Torrance County Fairgrounds in Estancia. The fair will feature numerous events, music, food, contests, entertainment and more.

The festivities kick off with the Old Timer’s Day Parade with the theme “Rockin’ through the Ages.”

Torrance County Fair President Marci Willem says a new event in this year’s fair will be a performance by the NM Territories Mounted Shooters.

“On August 7, the New Mexico Territories Mounted Shooters Association will be performing a show at the rodeo arena which includes a grand entry, mounted shooting demonstrations, the buckles and bells rodeo drill team,” she said.

Scattered throughout the fair are animal shows featuring goats, swine, rabbits, sheep and other livestock. Fairgoers will have the opportunity to view and purchase animals. The fair will also have exhibits showcasing community pride in Torrance County.

There will be plenty of food trucks on site offering a variety of options. The fair will also sponsor food events such as contests and cook-offs.

Willem said people who love to cook should participate in the pie contest on Aug. 7. Contestants can bring their own ingredients to cook.

“People have to bring their fresh ingredients and make it on site. So that’s something kind of fun and different for us this year,” Willem said.
