Bernalillo County officials are asking residents to participate in a public survey to gather feedback on the county’s newly re-developed 5-Year Strategic Plan. The plan is designed to guide the county over the next five years and addresses infrastructure, planning needs, public safety and overall community well-being.

The plan focuses on public safety and economic issues that are fiscally sustainable for its residents, businesses and visitors.

“This strategic plan is a collaborative effort incorporating insights from all 26 county departments, elected officials, and local stakeholders,” said Shirley Ragin, interim county manager. “Public feedback is crucial in helping us refine and implement a strategic plan that incorporates the needs of our community.”

Key components of the strategic plan:

  • Public safety: Enhancing general public safety and behavioral health services.
  • Economic growth: Creating a thriving economic environment for residents, businesses and visitors.
  • Quality of life: Improving the quality of life through community outreach, public health initiatives and sustainable development.
  • Fiscal sustainability: Ensuring financial accountability and sustainability for long-term prosperity.

Before composing the plan, a series of interviews and surveys were conducted with county commissioners, elected officials, the county manager, deputy county managers, and the strategic plan committee. The research process included one-on-one interviews, data collection, analysis, conclusions and implementing the findings into the plan. County officials are seeking public feedback and recommendations through an online survey starting July 15. The survey will remain open through Aug. 16.
