Citizens of Edgewood, are you paying attention to the Edgewood Town Commission?

The latest stunt they pulled was to have a “Special” Town Commission meeting on Wednesday, June 19, in Farmington, over 200 miles away from their regular meeting venue in the Edgewood Town Chambers. How much did this four-day junket of workshops and meetings cost the Edgewood taxpayers?

These “public servants” did not even allow an opportunity for Edgewood citizens to participate virtually, although they did include “Public Comments” as an agenda item. The agenda also stated, “The meeting will be in person. The public is welcome to attend.”

What are they hiding?

The agenda included matters from each commissioner, the town treasurer, chief of police and the town manager. I’m sure the residents of Farmington were quite interested in what Edgewood’s Governing Body and appointed officials had to say.

Discussion items included the Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan (ICIP) with no input from you, the taxpayer, on the various projects under consideration.

Two Closed Sessions were held regarding limited personnel matters about 3 appointed officials; specifically, Town Manager McCracken, Police Chief Jimenez, and Community Liaison Linda Burke.

What is Your Commission hiding and why do they not seek input from the taxpayers?

Where is the transparency?

The commissioners violated their own Operating Resolution #2024-004 which states, “Special Meetings…may be called…for a time and date certain at a location fully accessible to the public in the Town of Edgewood.” What other resolutions and ordinances are they simply disregarding, figuring no one is paying attention? Commissioner Brennan is running for NM State Representative in District 50. Do you think he should be promoted to a New Mexico State position when he cannot even follow local municipal resolutions?

The town commissioners take an oath to support the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution and laws of New Mexico and the ordinances of Edgewood. Our commissioners should conduct themselves in a manner that justifies the confidence placed in them by the people.

Conducting the business of the citizens of Edgewood, so far away, is a slap in the face to all of us taxpayers. Every one of the commissioners should be removed from office for the disregard they have for those of us paying their salaries.

Where is the outrage?
