Ahead of the Easter holiday weekend, the City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department (AWD) will be suspending rabbit adoptions at all city shelters from Thursday, March 28 through Monday, April 1. Rabbit adoptions will resume on Tuesday, April 2.
The Animal Welfare Dept. wants to remind people the family life commitment for a rabbit is not one week after Easter when the candy is gone and the rabbit is forgotten. Rabbits are social creatures with gentle natures and individual personalities. AWD says rabbits need just as much attention as a dog or a cat.
If you want to adopt a rabbit, the New Mexico House Rabbit Society offers assistance in finding the right rabbit that will fit your family.
To contact the New Mexico House Rabbit Society, visit rabbit.org/newmexico or call (505) 435-9916.
