U.S. Sen. Ben Ray Luján announced last week that he secured $800,000 in federal funding for the Edgewood Police Department’s Emergency Vehicle Fund.

This funding is part of the $62 million Luján secured in the first package of appropriations bills for 74 New Mexico projects. There were no other projects from the East Mountains or Torrance County funded in this package.

“This fund is to update and upgrade our fleet of vehicles for the police department and animal control,” said Edgewood Chief of Police, Roger Jimenez. “The old vehicles will be sent and shared with other departments in the town who desperately need it.”

According to Katherine Schneider, spokesperson for Sen. Luján, these projects are reviewed based on eligibility and community impact.

U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich also secured $114 million for 82 New Mexico projects, including several agricultural projects for rural communities and public safety needs.
