In the late-1950’s, Frances Escarcida and Adela Garcia had a vision that began with providing books in the local school hallway in the historic Village of Placitas. By March 1966, the library was incorporated with a Board of Trustees. By the early 1980s, the library became fully integrated into Placitas Elementary School and began to function as a school library. One of the library founders, Frances Escarcida, continued on as the school librarian for years to come.

On Sunday, April 7 at 2 p.m., the Placitas Community Library will host speakers who will recount the history of the library and its place in building the community.
The program will include a presentation to share this history and honor the people that helped bring a library to Placitas in 1958. Attendees will have the opportunity to thank one founder in-person, Frances Escarcida, a Library Trustee and lifetime library advocate.
Refreshments will be served following the free program.
