With temperatures dropping in Albuquerque, many students don’t have the appropriate clothing options to be able to keep them warm during these frigid temperatures.
To help students stay warm and comfortable during this winter season the Albuquerque Public School (APS) has opened its clothing bank welcoming all students to stop by and grab things they need to get through the cold temperatures. “Not all Albuquerque Public Schools students come from homes where all their needs are met. That harsh reality is evident in the winter when some students show up at schools without warm coats, hats, or mittens,” said Monica Armenta, Executive Director of APS Communications.

How you can help…
The APS Clothing Bank is always accepting donations. Donations are encouraged to be used or gently used. For more information on how to donate clothing items please email clothing.bank@aps.edu or visit aps.edu/community/clothing-bank/donation-drop-off-locations.
All students at APS schools (including charter and alternative schools) are eligible to receive services from the APS Community Clothing Bank. If your student needs basic needs items, they can reach out to their school’s counselor, family liaison, community school coordinator, social worker, or any school staff for help to receive items from the clothing bank.
“School staff proactively refer students to the APS Community Clothing Bank and other generous community organizations that support students and families facing financial challenges. Schools remain one of the safest places for children to spend their days. Ensuring our students are safe, warm, and fed is one of the district’s priorities,” said Armenta.
Even though the clothing bank has seen about a 28% increase in donations from last year they are still in need of some donations so that everyone who comes into the clothing bank can find what they need.
The clothing bank is asking for donations of clothing in adult sizes, for the high schoolers who may also find themselves in need of new coats, socks, hats, etc.
