The Placitas Artists Series presents David Felberg soloing on violin and viola d’amore for its January concert.

Praised for his “fluid phrases, rich focused tone, rhythmic precision, and spot-on intonation,” violinist David Felberg, an Albuquerque native, is the co-founder and artistic director of Chatter ABQ. Felberg plays in, and conducts, many of the shows—often presenting 20th- and 21st-century pieces of music that have never before been heard in New Mexico.

Felberg is also concertmaster of The Santa Fe Symphony, and performs with Santa Fe Pro Musica. He has been a featured soloist with the Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra, New Mexico Philharmonic, New Mexico Symphony, Albuquerque Philharmonic, Los Alamos Symphony, Palo Alto Philharmonic, Balcones Orchestra, and the Chatter Orchestra. He has performed recitals and chamber music all over New Mexico and the Southwest, and most recently performed at the Oregon Bach Festival. Felberg also specializes in contemporary solo violin music, having performed solo works of Berio, Boulez, Sciarrino, John Zorn, and Luigi Nono.

Felberg made his New York violin recital debut in Merkin Concert Hall in the spring of 2005. Felberg has also attended the prestigious American Academy of Conducting at the Aspen Music Festival. He plays an 1829 J. B. Vuillaume violin and a c. 1830 Claude Joseph Fonclause bow. “The impetus for this program,” says Felberg, “comes from “my acquiring a beautiful viola d’amore made by Paul Hart of Mount Pleasant, Utah.”

There is an early 2:00 p.m. monthly artists reception for concertgoers to meet with Felberg prior to the concert. On exhibit will be the works of Janet Bothne, acrylic & mixed painting; Karl Hofmann, linocut prints; Katherine Irish, pastel painting; and Carol Allen, jewelry & clothing.

The exhibit is open to the public during church gallery hours, Tuesday-Friday, 9:00-1:00 and by appointment, leesmall0@gmail.com. These artists are on exhibit from January 13, 2024 through March 8, 2024. All artwork on display is available for purchase.

Individual tickets can be purchased at PlacitasArts.org, where the concert program, musician bios, and more is available. K-12 students accompanied by an adult ticket holder may attend free. The concert is generously sponsored by Claudia and Robert Moraga and the Cates Team at RBC Wealth Management.
