The Sandoval County Treasurer’s Office is holding the third annual Thanksgiving Food Drive to help ease the burden for those with food insecurity.
This year, the county is partnering with the Nacimiento Community Foundation, which operates The Checkerboard Food Pantry in Cuba, will collect items from Oct. 16 to Nov. 17 for Sandoval County residents who need help. Distribution will be Nov. 20 via a drive-thru program at the Checkerboard Food Pantry.
“The holiday season can be a difficult time for many families in our community which is why it is so important for all of us to pull together to help. It’s as simple as picking up a few more items as we shop and dropping them off at a donation site,” says Jennifer A. Taylor, Sandoval County Treasurer. “I believe Sandoval County is the best when it comes to generosity and pulling together for the common good. It is my goal to continue these holiday outreach events for the duration of my term and, hopefully, the tradition will continue through future administrations.”
The treasurer’s office is encouraging residents to gather cans and other nonperishable food items while grocery shopping and drop them off at one of the donation sites.
Turkey donations will be accepted at the Sandoval County Administration building until 10 a.m. Nov. 15 so that they can be delivered to the Sandoval County Fairgrounds on the day of the Thanksgiving food distribution.
To donate to the Thanksgiving food drive, please bring nonperishable traditional Thanksgiving food donations to the businesses listed below. There is also a donation site at the Sandoval County Administration Building at the Treasurer’s Office at 1500 Idalia Road, Bldg. D, in Bernalillo.
